This wedding holds a special place in my heart...because my good friend Karmela was the beautiful bride. I never met Karmela's fiance-- until the wedding! I can't tell you how many memories this wedding has given me. From creating centerpieces until 1:00 AM, to the dainty details and crafty helpers who pitched in, the day turned out to be a wonderful event that everyone enjoyed. Even I was about to shed some happy tears!
How long did it take to plan your day?
My fiancé (then) and I started planning in 2011, so I would say almost a year.
What were you looking for in your wedding dress? How did you know which was the one?
I wanted my wedding dress to be very special, modest, elegant, but simple. I wanted a wedding dress that will “wow” my groom. I wanted to mix the traditional cathedral length vail and gloves with a princess-look dress, and I particularly liked anything with lace. I tried 5-6 dresses in different stores, but I found the one which I thought reflected my personality. I knew it was the right dress when I fit it. The top of the dress was very simple, but the detail on the bottom gave it a nice flare. Then I purchased a flower with the same ivory color to add on the waist.
What was your color scheme?
My husband liked purple, and we combined it with some silver. It was very timely because we got married on Thanksgiving weekend.
Who put your wedding together?
Of course my husband and I did, but there were a lot of church family and relatives who helped. Kelvin's (then fiance) pastor helped us organize the ceremony. My mom mainly helped with the food. The ladies in the church helped in the kitchen, serving and decorating. My cousin was our main photographer. The Gargollos (church family) sponsored us the cake. My aunt took care of all the decorations and flowers. My sister’s soon-to-be boyfriend then was our main driver. Sis. Thea (church family) did my hair. Our pastor was the officiant. Everybody helped us put the wedding together.
Any other reflections on your wedding day?
We may not have the most extravagant wedding, but I felt that the angels and God was there to witness our most special day. When I entered the church and walked down the aisle, I felt like a real princess and my dream finally came true. Everybody was smiling and looking at me. The love of my life was waiting for me at the altar. Everything just fell into place, and it was joy unspeakable. It might be a very tedious preparation, and though we experienced the biggest storm in our lives before our wedding, when I said “I do” on that very moment, it was all worth it…It was all worth the wait.
